A new generation of diapers —
co-created with nature

What if a diaper helped
heal the Earth,

Diapers normally take up to 400 years to fully decompose. Our diapers speed up that process, helping to regenerate Mother Earth faster.

instead of hurting it? Together with top diaper engineers, mycologists, and parents, we created a diaper that answers the call of nature in a guilt-free way. A high-performing, ultra-soft diaper that doesn’t just reduce waste — it
transforms

Our diaper is powered by a blend of special strains of fungi that have evolved to eat plastics, helping return them to nature.

it.

Meet our baby: the revolutionary HIRO Diaper that returns to the earth with the help of our friendly, plastic-eating fungi.

The world’s first Mycodigestible™ diaper.

Our Promise

Our high-performing HIRO Diaper (pronounced "hero") is here to build a better future for the next generation. The world doesn't need another greenwashed 'eco' option; it needs a complete revolution in care.

On average, babies go through up to 6,000 diapers and take up to 400 years to breakdown. Each year, disposable diapers pile into landfills at a scale that could circle the Earth 33 times!

Microplastics bring harm to our brains, bodies and planet. We have the power to change that. Starting with a simple everyday choice, we can help eliminate the #1 household plastic waste item.

We believe in a diaper without compromises. Our HIRO Diaper is good for the Earth, super absorbent, designed for play and sleep, and made with materials that are soft as a flower petal.

We have developed the most thoughtful diaper in the world (seriously). HIRO Diapers are intentionally de-featured—simplified to remove the extras without sacrificing performance.

The result? A no-compromise diaper that's gentle, effective, and thoughtfully designed for your baby and the planet.

Super absorbent leak protection for up to 12 hours, day or night

Hypoallergenic and Dermatologist Tested

ABOUT THE HIRO DIAPER

To create a true shift in culture, one that supports baby, parent, and planet, we had to break away from the status quo. Traditional diapers use bleached, processed, and synthetic materials that can be harmful to your baby’s skin and leave behind a legacy of waste.

Instead, our diaper uses unbleached cotton and wood pulp from sustainably managed forests. These materials are clean and gentle on your baby’s bottom and the planet.

After use, our diaper makes the perfect snack for our friendly fungi. Accelerating decomposition to support a thriving ecosystem.

HOW IT WORKS

Our HIRO Diapers are accompanied by the HIRO Pouch, which house our
friendly fungi.

Our fungi stay dormant (asleep) in the HIRO Pouch until they come into contact with your baby’s pee or poop.

Just add the whole pouch to your baby’s dirty diaper during changing time. In a few weeks, nature will work its magic and start to break
down the diaper.

Our friendly, plastic eating fungi wake up after a few weeks in a landfill and begin digesting your baby's HIRO Diaper. Woah!

From Plastic

To Nature

In a single step.

Add the whole pouch to the dirty diaper and throw it out. No need to open the pouch. It’s that simple.

YOUR BABY, THE HIRO

Your baby's poop and pee are the fertilizers that help our sleeping, friendly fungi grow and help turn waste back into nature. AKA nature doing what nature does best.

Our fungi get to work helping break down your baby's HIRO Diaper in landfills. A process that normally takes up to 400 years can now happen in a fraction of the time.

It's our ultimate hope for the future that not only our fungi will break down your baby's diaper, but that they will also break down other plastics in the landfill too, helping regenerate Mother Nature.

DON'T TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT

Hear what real parents have to say:

“As a master father of four kids, this diaper is phenomenal — two blowouts and a pee and it worked beautifully.”

JOSHUA, CA

“I feel so good that my baby’s poop is fertilizing fungi to help with the plastic problem!”

MELISSA, NY

“10 out of 10 I choose HIRO diaper on how it performed on my twins and for how good it makes me feel not to be generating double the waste."

MIKI'S STORY

Mama Miki here. When I gave birth to my son Hiro Happy, I was over the moon. But with each diaper change, I felt an overwhelming wave of guilt, wondering where each diaper ended up. I learned that a typical diaper thrown into a landfill takes up to 400 years to decompose, and an average baby goes through up to 6,000 diapers before they reach childhood.

Balancing my eco-conscious values with the demands of new motherhood felt like a tug-of-war. I tried cloth diapers and they were messy and wasted water. I looked to the eco-diaper world only to find options that sacrificed the comfort of my baby. I knew there had to be a better way.

My son Hiro helped me discover that plastic-eating mushrooms exist and that we can harness these wonderful hundred-million-year-old beings to help break down diapers in a safe, natural way.

I then met Tero, a 13th generation mushroom farmer and he shared his similar experience with the birth of his first child. We became partners with a new mission: to help solve the global plastic crisis — starting with diapers — by harnessing plastic-eating mushrooms!

TERO'S STORY

I grew up in Finland on a family farm we've had since 1619. There my father taught me that a "quarter" in nature is 25-years and not 3-months like Wall Street teaches us. I learned early-on the value of mushrooms, berries, trees, spring water, and Mother Nature as a whole.

This all led me 20-years ago to win an innovation award for discovering a new mushroom species, and afterwards to create the Original Mushroom Coffee as the Founder of Four Sigmatic. Mushrooms have–in every way possible–changed my life for the better!

In 2020 my friend Miki approached me with the revolutionary idea to harness plastic-eating fungi for the world starting with diapers. In January 2021 my first son Banyan was born and I quickly realized how the world desperately needs a solution for this.

That is when we joined forces and HIRO was born. Now 4+ years later we have award-winning and patented Mycodigestible™ technology (I also have three kids now). I'm truly stoked to see what the next 4+ years bring to us.
